Development

The Community Development and Planning Department is responsible for the coordination and guidance of growth and development through planning, zoning, subdivision review, buildings for lease or rent review, floodplain development, open lands, parks, and historic preservation. Our mission is to provide high-quality service, encourage public participation, improve communication, and utilize clear objectives, standards, and procedures.

The Community Development Department aims to improve living and economic conditions of persons in the City by ensuring the compliance and safety of all residential and commercial projects for qualified projects to support the following:

• Inhibit the deterioration of property
• Expand and improve the quantity and quality of community services
• Improve arrangement of residential, commercial, industrial, recreational and other necessary activity centers
• Restore and preserve properties of historic, architectural or aesthetic value
• Alleviate physical or economic distress through private investment and community revitalization activation in blighted areas
