Why teach your cat to swim?

For starters, most cats love water and the big cats that we see in the wild are not the "scaredy cats" that we see domesticated in our homes. Slowly acclimating the cats to water and teaching them to swim can benefit you if there was ever an accident and they escaped to the pool, but more common, they will actually enjoy bath time.

The Process

While we understand some cats will take to water easier than others, we follow the same process in teaching all our cat students how to swim. Below is a list of the eight (8) steps we take in the program while appreciating that some pets may need more coercing.  Our professional cat swim instructors are here every step of the way to help guide you and your furry feline.

• Step 1: Safely get the cat into the water
• Step 2: Comfort and calm that cat once in the water
• Step 3: Let the cat adjust to the water
• Step 4: Let the cat loose in the water
• Step 5: Guide the cat in how to swim through the water
• Step 6: Teach the cat to turn while swimming
• Step 7: Let the cat swim while still holding the cat
• Step 8: Let the cat go!

The Result

Not only are you building a better bond with your cat, one based on trust. You gain the satisfaction in knowing that they are capable of living more similarly to their wild feline ancestors. You are also comforted in knowing that if they escape, the pesky pool isn't such a problem and you can easily take care of their hygiene by giving them baths.  We know that this can be an intense process, but one that is worthwhile in the long run.
